Tools and Hardware Reviews of SpringTools CA198 3 Piece Woodworking Set with Nail Starter, Nail Set, Wood Chisel, Center Punch

Customer Review: Great tool
Summary: 5 Stars

Spring tools are quite handy, especially for on-site nail setting. I also carry a couple in my tool apron around the shop. If I have to set a nail, I don't need to make a special trip to get a hammer. Just pull the spring back and let it do the job!

Customer Review: Nice snap
Summary: 5 Stars

Asked for this as a gift. Have used it well so far. I was surprised how nicely it drove a couple of nails right into place; two quick snaps and they were set right where I wanted them so I could fill the spots with Painter's Putty. Now I am eager to do a couple of crown molding jobs I have been putting off.

Customer Review: SpringTools
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had several of the nail set "snappers" and love 'em. But, you have to be careful and not extend the spring too far or one end will come off or you will stretch the spring. So, if you are trying to set a larger nail in hard wood, this may not be the best solution because you can't exert enough force without destoying the tool. But it's great for setting small nails without displacing one of the pieces you're nailing.

Customer Review: works great
Summary: 5 Stars

You might need some rubber gloves to attenuate the effect of the impact on the fingers, but this works great. It is small but the spring is strong and avoid any rebound on impact so all the force gets transmitted into the target. 3 knocks and the nail will go all the way through. More precise than a hammer as you can hold it in place before pulling the spring with the other hand.
In some instances, better than a hammer and especially where there is not much space. I've used it to drive nails into hardwood flooring when I get close to the wall and the pneumatic hammer can't be used (not enough space to swing). I also pre-drilled a hole in order to avoid splitting the wood but this tool will drive a nail into wood without a problem. I've also used some of the other chisel tools which work OK but I've not really had a problem using a standard chisel and hammer as much.
